About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Greenhouse and Field Operations Manager to oversee operations at both the School of Life Sciences Greenhouse facility on the UNLV main campus and the Center for Urban Water Conservation in North Las Vegas. This role involves supporting faculty and students with research projects, maintaining environmental control, irrigation, water purification, and fertilizer injection systems. The position also includes handling fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, as well as organizing facility spaces. At the Center for Urban Water Conservation, responsibilities extend to the day-to-day maintenance of a 10-acre research site, including irrigation, pumping systems, lysimeter facilities, and a weather station project, while interacting with Cooperative Extension staff. The successful candidate will be hired into the Research Analyst/Research Associate position classification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (biology, horticulture or agronomy preferred) from an accredited college or university.
  • At least two years of experience in a science-related field.
  • OR a Master’s degree in a science-related field in lieu of work experience requirement.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with and maintaining both greenhouse and field instrumentation.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel and Statistical programs).
  • A basic understanding of chemistry as associated with soil-plant-water analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the School of Life Sciences Greenhouse facility on the UNLV main campus (one day per week) and at the Center for Urban water Conservation in North Las Vegas (four days per week).
  • Working with faculty and students to ensure the success of ongoing research projects.
  • Maintaining environmental control systems, irrigation, water purification, and fertilizer injection systems.
  • Handling and applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
  • Cleaning and organizing the head-house and greenhouse bays.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day maintenance of the 10-acre research site at the Center for Urban water Conservation.
  • Maintaining the irrigation and pumping system, the lysimeter facility, and a weather station research project.
  • Interacting with the Cooperative Extension staff housed at the Center for Urban Water Conservation.
