About The Position

The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve (GSLSP) Assistant performs and participates in preserve operations and maintenance, under the direction of the GSLSP Manager and Utah Director of Stewardship. The funding and/or need for this position is expected to last for approximately four to six months with an intended start date in late July and end date in early November. This is a full-time, hourly position expected to work approximately 35 hours per week, 4 days per week. The GSLSP Assistant maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and performs land management activities. GSLSP Assistant duties may include evasive plant species treatments, maintains/builds fence, and maintains tools and equipment and should be familiar with various types of equipment, including but not limited to chainsaws, tractors, trailers and ATVs and be familiar with herbicide equipment/handling. GSLSP Assistant may assist in and maintain tools, equipment and land.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year’s training in a science-related field or related experience in land management.
  • Experience recognizing plant and animal species.
  • Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g., lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, tractors, truck and trailer, or similar equipment).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required (e.g., First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application).
  • Valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.
  • Ability to obtain a driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues, coworkers, and team members.
  • PC and/or mobile device familiarity, including database knowledge or understanding.

  • Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems.
