About The Position

The Graphic Designer assists the Marketing department’s creative team with the design and production of a full range of material required for integrated campaigns, including graphics, brochures, print and online ads, Microsoft Office documents, posters, billboards, eBlast assets, and digital content. The incumbent will create unique mock-ups or concepts for new ideas or campaigns, or follow existing look/feel. The incumbent will assist the web team with web content updates and overall site maintenance (HTML) within the college’s Content Management System (CMS). The incumbent follows the optimal way to present content with respect to site goals and ensures content is in line with site design, brand, and accessibility standards. The incumbent follows the established Brand and Guidelines and overall college look/feel to determine the optimal layout of graphics and content to produce consistent, high quality materials. The incumbent understands the overall strategic goals of the Marketing & Recruitment department, as well as the college overall, and uses these goals to guide design decisions. The incumbent understands and includes accessibility features into files of all media types for direct consumption by end users, and to streamline the process to repurpose documents for online consumption. The incumbent maintains quality by running spellcheck, pre-flighting documents before print and ensuring work is proofed and approved by appropriate team members and other college staff. The Graphic Designer responds to requests from tickets or via email in a timely and accurate manner. The incumbent works with their manager and traffic coordinator to prioritize workload to ensure overall department and college goals are met. The incumbent communicates updates, changes and requirements with coworkers, clients and managers via Zendesk or via other channels.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of post-secondary education in Graphic design or equivalent combination of relevant educational and practical experience.
  • Minimum two years of graphic design and production experience including a wide range of document and medium types (catalogues, flyers, advertisements, brochures, reports, digital ads, digital content, Office document production etc.) and sizes (1 page up to 100+ of pages).
  • Understanding of accessible document principles, how to build accessible files and PDF remediation tools and techniques.
  • Strong spelling and grammar skills.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with computers (Mac environment) and advanced applications software: For print and digital applications – Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional; For document production: Microsoft – Word, PowerPoint and other Office programs
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Follows the principles of graphic design to build and present the highest quality material using the most up-to-date techniques.
  • Designs concepts/thumbnails/mockups based on direction provided, other campaigns already underway, or new ideas.
  • Produces a wide range of material required for a integrated campaigns, including graphics, brochures, print and online ads, Microsoft Office documents, posters, billboards, eBlasts and digital content.
  • Uses complex software (Adobe Suite and Acrobat Professional; Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, etc.) to create and maintain documents for print or online distribution.
  • Ensures all material created or edited meets the brand guidelines of the college.
  • Follows workflow to ensure files are proofed, spellchecked, reviewed and approved before printing or distribution.
  • Assists the web team with web content updates and overall site maintenance (HTML) within the college’s Content Management System (CMS).
  • Follows the optimal way to present content with respect to site goals and ensures content is in line with site design, brand and accessibility standards.
  • Refines, modifies and/or touches up appearance of photos to best suit end-use.
  • Optimizes photos using complex software for print or web use.
  • Organizes, edits, tags and uploads images in the Digital Asset Manager, if applicable, or the Marketing Server.
  • Applies accessibility principles and techniques to new document creation and the editing of existing documents to produce files that the majority of end users can consume in either print or digital format.
  • Uses the department’s online ticketing system to respond to requests, track issues and document task completion.
  • Other duties as assigned.
