About The Position

Designs materials to be presented by visual communications media such as books, pamphlets, forms, and documents that promote and fulfill the vision and direction of the Secretary of State.

Requirements

  • Proficient using graphic design software, tools and techniques, with preference for Adobe Creative Suite components in a Macintosh operating system environment.
  • Degree from four-year University in graphic design, desktop publishing or related field; and a minimum of two years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Arkansas driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills assignments from the Creative Services Director and Executive staff to design materials for publication, display and/or posting through digital media.
  • Utilizes graphic design expertise to create publications, displays and other materials for special programs and projects that are consistent with the SOS visual style and message.
  • Produces publications for the various divisions of the SOS, including newsletters, brochures, flyers, invitations, programs, banners, forms and other ancillary materials.
  • Determines size, arranges art and text, and selects fonts based on design concepts and principles.
  • Prepares illustrations or rough sketches of material according to requests from staff, utilizing digital publishing software.
  • Collaborates with Photography staff to acquire or capture images needed for publications.
  • Works with the Creative Services Director to proof and receive requisite approval on final layouts and prepares electronic files for printer.
  • Meets specified deadlines for creating, proofing and producing camera-ready digital artwork for printed publications. Tracks publications through the approval process to ensure adherence with production schedule.
  • Provides technical assistance to Purchasing Manager in development of bidding specifications for printing jobs.
  • Produces in-house copies of forms, invitations, hand-outs and other materials as needed.
  • Monitors developments in software and operating systems for Macintosh systems and uses that information to advise staff on software and equipment upgrades.
  • Maintains hard copy and computer files of documents, and purges old files as needed.
  • Provides routine and preventative maintenance on laser and inkjet Printers.
  • Assists Creative Services Director in communicating and managing printing vendors to deliver printer-ready artwork and ensure quality of final printed product and delivery.
  • Assist Creative Services team with routine or special projects as requested.
  • Fulfills requests for the Great Seal and other artwork from state agencies, boards and commissions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
