About The Position

Integration Charter Schools (ICS) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Graphic Design Teacher to join their vibrant learning community. ICS provides innovative pathways to college that integrate students with special needs, focusing on teamwork, courage, community, and integrity. The school network comprises four schools on Staten Island, New York, emphasizing a rigorous academic curriculum alongside a social-emotional learning program. The Graphic Design Teacher will play a crucial role in creating inclusive pathways to academic and social-emotional success for all learners, working collaboratively with students, families, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Ability to become certified in the state of New York and pass the state licensure exam – if not already a certified teacher!
  • Exhibit patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate students toward their full potential.
  • Experience teaching graphic design in a school setting.
  • Possess exceptional communication skills, empowering you to convey complex ideas in relatable terms.
  • Collaborative attitude toward teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Craft and deliver captivating lessons that engage and energize students across various subjects, enriching their educational journey.
  • Address the learning needs of all learners in your classroom.
  • Plan instruction that creates independent learning opportunities for students.
  • Present a passion for learning, growth mindset and a love for the subject matter you are teaching.
  • Deliver high quality content in the assigned content area integrating Social Emotional instructional practices.
  • Tailor teaching methods to meet the unique learning needs of every student, ensuring no one is left behind on their educational journey.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating your passion for learning and instilling it in our students, nurturing their growth and development.
  • Design and deliver a comprehensive Graphic Design and Digital Arts curriculum, including digital illustration, branding, visual communication, and multimedia design.
  • Develop and teach 3D design and fabrication units, including modeling, slicing, and production using 3D printers.
  • Provide students with hands-on opportunities to engage in design thinking, prototyping, and iterative problem-solving.
  • Integrate industry-standard tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Tinkercad, Blender, Canva, or similar platforms) into daily instruction.
  • Plan and implement projects that connect art, technology, and real-world applications (marketing, product design, architecture, etc.).
  • Teach foundational and advanced skills in digital citizenship, AI use in design, and ethical creative practices.
  • Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners, including students new to digital tools and those ready for advanced design challenges.
  • Create a predictable, physically, emotionally and intellectually safe learning environment for all stakeholders (students, family members, teachers and staff).
  • Make space for student voice and choice.
  • Manage student behaviors and use mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Hold a high bar for effort, persistence and quality of work.
  • Celebrate progress and recognize student achievement.
  • Foster a creative studio environment that encourages risk-taking, critique, collaboration, and student voice.
  • Provide structured opportunities for peer critique and feedback cycles to strengthen student work and communication skills.
  • Create positive relationships by showing care and trust with families.
  • Provide weekly communication touch points for families when needed.
  • Provide families with the tools and tips that they can work on and support their students at home.

  • Showcase student work through digital portfolios, exhibitions, showcases, or school-wide displays.
  • Build partnerships (when possible) that expose students to careers in design, technology, and creative industries.

  • Participate in school and network wide professional development opportunities including but not limited to, mentorship, coaching cycles, observation and feedback rounds.
  • Constantly reflect on your practice, content knowledge and pedagogical skill.
  • Maintain accurate records for grading, progress monitoring and communication.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and invest in yourself as an adult learner.
  • Support the school as directed by the Principal, Assistant Principal and Dean.
  • Create and champion an inclusive environment where students are valued; fostering a sense of belonging within our vibrant educational community.
  • Manage and maintain a 3D Arts and Design Lab, including 3D printers and related equipment.
  • Ensure proper setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and safe operation of 3D printing technology.
  • Maintain inventory of materials (filament, tools, supplies) and establish systems for efficient lab usage.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in digital design, 3D fabrication, and educational technology.
  • Support integration of design and technology across content areas through collaboration with colleagues.
  • Lead or support extracurricular opportunities such as design clubs, robotics, or innovation-based programs.
