About The Position

Middle Seat is a full-service firm for progressive causes and candidates, seeking a creative and driven design intern for Fall 2026 (August 24 - November 13, 2026). The intern will work closely with the design team to support real campaigns and causes with impactful visuals, creating social media graphics, digital ads, print collateral, branding assets, and more. The role encourages bringing one's own creative voice while learning to collaborate in a fast-paced political design environment. This position is available either in-person in Washington, D.C. or remotely. Requirements

  • Excited by the idea of using design to drive progressive change
  • Enjoys solving visual problems and thinking creatively
  • Comfortable using tools like Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva
  • Detail-oriented, takes feedback well, and is always looking to learn
  • Senior, in the last year of an undergraduate program, or a recent grad
  • Committed to working for progressive political candidates and causes
  • Team player
  • Follows along with the news of the day, particularly an understanding of the U.S. political system as well as key progressive issues
  • Can commit to full-time (40-hour work week) or near full-time availability, with consistent hours each week
  • Based in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on design for advocacy, nonprofit, or political projects
  • Familiar with Adobe After Effects or other motion design tools
  • Knows how to edit short videos using After Effects or Premiere Pro
  • Working knowledge of accessibility in design
  • Interested in UX/UI or web design

Responsibilities

  • Designing graphics for email, social media, and digital ads
  • Applying brand guidelines to new and existing creative
  • Building simple animations (GIFs, video loops) and editing video clips
  • Assisting with print materials like flyers, proposals, and direct mail
  • Supporting the creative team on larger design projects including identity design and web graphics
  • Receiving and implementing feedback from designers, strategists, and clients
  • Collaborating with strategists, developers, and other creatives to deliver cross-platform assets
