About The Position

McGarity Consulting Group is a learning and organizational development firm headquartered in Chicago. Our clients include government agencies, regulated industries, and mission-driven organizations that build workforce capability—from instructional design and e-learning to coaching, facilitation, and change management. We are seeking to add graphic design contractors to our bench in anticipation of increased client demand.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud: Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Understanding of visual design basics: layout, typography, color theory, hierarchy and grid systems
  • Experience with building and applying brand guidelines, including working inside a client's style guide
  • Ability to create icons, infographics and data visualization that turn technical content into simple visuals
  • Knowledge of print and digital production: export settings, file prep and version control
  • Experience creating graphics for Articulate Storyline: slide backgrounds, character poses, buttons, states and layers
  • Ability to read a storyboard and turn it into finished screens with the instructional designers
  • Experience creating visuals for technical and process content, such as equipment diagrams, workflows and annotated photos
  • Understanding of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA design rules: color contrast, not relying on color alone, readable fonts and alt-text-ready graphics
  • Experience creating accessible PDFs from InDesign (tagging and reading order), or working with Diana on remediation
  • Ability to design for screen readers and keyboard navigation in eLearning
  • Experience taking structured feedback from SMEs, clients and the PM, and managing review rounds
  • Proficiency in file organization and naming that fits the team's handoff process
  • Comfort with remote collaboration tools such as Teams, SharePoint and Review 360
  • Ability to work quickly under fixed submission deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Absorb Create and Rise
  • Basic motion graphics or animation in After Effects or Vyond
  • Working knowledge of Figma or Canva for quick mockups
  • Experience in federal or government contracting
  • Video editing in Premiere Pro or Camtasia
  • Experience with AI image tools such as Firefly, used responsibly and with an eye on licensing

Responsibilities

  • Building and applying brand guidelines, including working inside a client's style guide
  • Creating icons, infographics and data visualization that turn technical content into simple visuals
  • Designing print and digital production elements, including export settings, file prep and version control
  • Creating graphics for Articulate Storyline: slide backgrounds, character poses, buttons, states and layers
  • Translating storyboards into finished screens with instructional designers
  • Developing visuals for technical and process content, such as equipment diagrams, workflows and annotated photos
  • Creating basic motion graphics or animation in After Effects or Vyond
  • Adhering to Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA design rules: color contrast, not relying on color alone, readable fonts and alt-text-ready graphics
  • Creating accessible PDFs from InDesign (tagging and reading order), or working with Diana on remediation
  • Designing for screen readers and keyboard navigation in eLearning
  • Taking structured feedback from SMEs, clients and the PM, and managing review rounds
  • Organizing and naming files according to the team's handoff process
  • Collaborating using remote tools such as Teams, SharePoint and Review 360
  • Creating layouts for proposals and capability statements, plus RFP response formatting under strict page and font limits
  • Developing templates for Word and PowerPoint that non-designers can maintain
  • Designing covers, org charts, process graphics and past-performance one-pagers
  • Working quickly under fixed submission deadlines
