Graphic Design Adjunct Faculty Pool, School of Design

Columbia College Chicago•Chicago, IL

About The Position

Columbia College Chicago is building a pool of part-time Graphic Design Adjunct Faculty for its School of Design. Adjunct appointments are not available every semester and depend on student enrollment and funding. The instructor will teach graphic design courses and support students in developing their design skills and portfolios. Candidates should be able to explain complex design concepts clearly, engage students, and provide critiques. The college’s broader School of Design includes animation, interior architecture, UX/UI, game design and art, cinema visual effects, game programming, software development, and general education courses in math and science. The college generally requires faculty to hold a degree at least one level above the level they teach, with a terminal degree preferred in the relevant discipline. In terminal-degree programs, faculty hold the same degree level. In some cases, demonstrated currency in a specialized discipline and a sustained record of distinguished professional work, creative achievement, or other significant relevant experience may be considered instead of the required degree. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and three references. Further materials, including official transcripts from the degree-granting institution, may be requested later. The position is subject to a background screening, is a union position, and is overtime-ineligible. Entry-level compensation for teaching one three-credit course as of Fall 2026 is $5,635; compensation is prorated for courses with fewer or more credits. Columbia College Chicago emphasizes access to a wide range of social and cultural theories, practices, and perspectives in its creative curriculum. It seeks candidates able to work with students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and whose creative, scholarly, or professional work contributes to a rich educational experience. The college is an equal opportunity employer and complies with applicable civil-rights laws.
