About The Position

The Grants Administrator is a member of the finance team in the Chairman’s Office of the Department of Ophthalmology and reports directly to the Department Administrator. The grants administrator manages, develops, coordinates, and administers all grants and contracts for the Department of Ophthalmology and Storm Eye Institute.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or the social sciences and four years experience in contracts and grant administration activities.
  • Computer literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the administration of all post-award clinical and basic research grants to ensure that budgeting and administrative policies, procedures, and agency requirements are being met.
  • Monitors all budgeted amounts pertaining to grants and contracts and makes determinations on overruns; identifies potential for transfers of funds and adjustments to contract provisions.
  • Manages administrative problems and /or budget changes occurring during the grant period.
  • Ensures all grant invoices and bills are processed in a timely manner.
  • Manages effort for all personnel assigned to awards, tracks cost allocations in OurDay for all ongoing projects and adjusts as needed.
  • Analyzes transactions in grant accounts, monitors grant financial activities and makes recommendations to investigators.
  • Prepares and distributes financial reports to Department Administrator and each Principal Investigator.
  • Provides programmatic management and coordination of select research awards.
  • Manages day-to-day activities regarding implementation and development of the programs.
  • Provides ongoing training and oversight to partner sites.
  • Develops clinical and basic research grant request proposals to funding agencies to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Uses knowledge of regulations (federal, state, private) to assist faculty, staff and students with complying with these policies and regulations.
  • Reviews and recommends adjustments to research proposals, contracts, grants supplemental fund requests, amendments to contract or grant provisions, reports of inventions, subcontracts and other business and financial provisions.
  • Serves as liaison between funding agencies, ORSP, GCA, and department investigators.
  • Assists investigators in preparing grant proposals, including budgets, progress and financial reports.
  • Manages and prepares grant budgets according to project guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with various funding agency rules concerning expenditures.
  • Represents the department at research administration meetings.
  • Proactively researches and alerts department investigators of all potential funding opportunities.
  • Works closely with Office of Grants and Contracts accounting in preparing financial reports for award close-outs, following all MUSC procedures.
  • Advises PI’s regarding contract requirements, provisions of contractual report and financial and agency requirements.
  • Will supervise Grant Administrator I. Duties will include managing workflow, evaluating performance and providing feedback to the Department Administrator.
