About The Position

The Grants Accountant oversees the implementation, enforcement and accuracy of procedures involved in grant management. The person in this position will maintain an accurate accounting and responsibility for the operations of grant administration and related accounting duties.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Accounting, and 3 years of grants accounting and general ledger experience required.
  • Candidate must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.
  • Successful registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
  • Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Has strong GAAP foundation, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and grant accounting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately follow instructions in both oral and written form.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Teams and Outlook) and database software.
  • Project Management – Ability to organize, plan and prioritize multiple fast-moving projects/grants with changing priorities, drivers, and dependencies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, records, and reviews all agency grant/contracts ensuring compliance with the funding guidelines and restrictions, as well as budget and grant requirements.
  • Completes invoices for grant payments and reimbursements.
  • Provides accurate and timely financial reports, conducts grant research and analysis in partnership with Program Directors.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for grant managers in accordance with grant guidelines and established schedules.
  • Meets with Program Directors as needed to ensure proper tracking and adherence to budgets as they relate to financial statements.
  • Ensures reports are accurate and expenses are coded to the correct grant/contract, documentation is adequate and all fiscal and grant guidelines are met.
  • Tracks Agency requests for reimbursement to assure optimum level of cash is available.
  • Responds to inquiries from funders and staff by email, in person and over the phone.
  • Maintains knowledge of federal and non-federal regulations and operation policies as well as knowledge of financial record keeping and accounting principles and practices.
  • Aids in preparation of the annual budget for all grants, which includes making periodic budget projections.
  • Assists auditors with obtaining documentation and answering questions.
  • Effectively interprets, communicates, and ensures adherence to administrative and departmental principles, rules, regulations and procedures. Assists Grants Specialist I in learning these areas as needed.
  • Creates and implements applicable grant management procedures.
  • Maintains comprehensive understanding and interpretation of principles, laws and procedures involved in grant management. Assists and advises Grants Specialist 1 in these areas as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with both internal colleagues and external agency contacts.
