About The Position

The Grant Writer is responsible for the preparation, writing and submission of grant proposals that support the health center’s programs and initiatives. The Grant Writer works closely with the Director, Grant Programs & Research, the Grants Manager, Financial Analysts and others throughout the organization to write and ensure timely submission of all grant applications. This position is also responsible for the administrative activities associated with grant submissions including maintenance of files, filing of historical copies and the tracking of submissions. This position requires a high-level understanding of the grant writing process, extensive experience writing successful proposals for highly competitive grants, excellent time-management and project management skills and excellent communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in grant writing; technical writing experience preferred.
  • Expert understanding of the grant writing process.
  • Extensive experience writing successful proposals for highly competitive grants; Superior writing and proof-reading skills.
  • Sense of initiative and the ability to undertake and successfully conclude grant proposals with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with competing priorities; acute attention to detail with speed and accuracy.
  • Experience with Grants.gov and electronic grant application and report submission tools such as the Electronic Handbook (EHB); experience in the healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit and submit all grant applications for new and existing programs in conjunction with medical, dental, behavioral health and enabling programs, exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
  • Prepare UDS Mapper maps as needed.
  • Complete all applications with appropriate attachments, including fiscal items, for review by the leadership team and others prior to submission.
  • Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material.
  • Utilize the HRSA Electronic Handbook (EHB), Grants.gov, GrantSolutions, eRA Commons and other electronic submission systems to apply for grants, cooperative agreements, and specified contracts, as well as, to submit reports.
  • As requested, coordinate and submit grant reports for internal review and external submission.
  • Revise the organization’s Needs Assessment annually for internal (e.g., Chiefs, Board of Directors) and external (e.g., grant writing, The Joint Commission (TJC), HRSA, etc.) purposes.
  • Research and prepare reports, including market-share reports, for the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office to perform duties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director, Grant Programs and Research.
