About The Position

Responsible for supporting, researching and identifying federal, state and private foundation grant funding opportunities for which the Community Health and Wellness Center (CHWC) is eligible and develops and submits grant funding applications/proposals. The Grant Writer collaborates with the Director of Fund Development, department heads, the CEO and other CHWC key stakeholders to identify institutional grant needs and opportunities across departments. The Grant Writer stays abreast of evolving laws, regulations, and grant requirements. The grant writer will ensure that funding initiatives align with the mission of the organization and potential donors.

  • Research Abilities: Proficiency in searching through databases (e.g., Foundation Directory Online) to find funding opportunities.
  • Project Management & Organization: Strong skills in managing multiple projects, budgets, and strict deadlines.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring all proposals adhere to strict formatting, word count, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work and interact with departments throughout the organization
  • Supports the philosophy of CHWC and complies with the Center’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality, adheres to agency Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Interacts effectively with groups and individuals; open honest communication; addresses issues professionally while directing to the appropriate departments.

  • Proficient in English, Communications, Creative Writing, Public Administration, or a related field required
  • Three to five years of experience with grant writing, public administration, and/or grant management
  • Proven track record in obtaining grant funding through governmental (federal, state, or other) and private entities/organizations
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Access and use of confidential financial and patient medical records. Confidentiality must be maintained according to Community Health and Wellness Center of Greater Torrington policies.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying new grant opportunities, maintaining a calendar of deadlines, and assessing alignment between the funder and the organization.
  • Maintain access to and monitor all Federal, State, and private grant source posting sites such as grants.gov, HRSA, community foundation websites and filter for opportunities.
  • Writing, editing, and submitting high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and grant applications.
  • Working with program directors, financial staff, and leadership to develop project budgets, goals, and evaluation metrics, while prioritizing initiatives.
  • Conduct and coordinate the full range of activities required to prepare, manage, and submit grant proposals as well as monitor progress for outcome goals and spend down requirements.
  • Assemble and submit all grant applications to include essential documents such as letters of support budgets, and other supporting documentation.
  • Work with Finance and other departments, to gather information and to support reporting to funders on current grant programs.
  • Working with finance and other departments tracking awarded grants and producing reports for funders to show proper use of funds and to demonstrate compliance.
  • Maintain current database of all active and historical grants.
  • Work with the finance team to create grant budget, analyze and evaluate grant budgets for correct calculation of expenditure categories such as salaries, indirect costs, materials, and equipment.
  • Communicating with funders to explore opportunities and, in some cases, coordinating site visits.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary grant information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Assists with providing support to other departments and external agencies for any documentation required in support of independent audits, and state audits.
  • Assist with preparation of Annual Budget.
  • Must maintain appropriate attendance.
  • Performs related duties as required by management.
