About The Position

Our client, a reputable long-standing non-profit organization, is seeking a Grant Accountant to join their growing team. The Grant Accountant will possess prior working knowledge in grant accounting and be heavily involved in a large mixture of federal, state, county, private, and public grants management. The Grant Accountant will be the primary assistant to the Manager of Grant Accounting, reporting directly to them and working alongside them in a collaborative department. This is an incredible opportunity for a Grant Accountant professional to be immersed in month-end close activities. The ideal Grant Accountant candidate will have experience working on month-end close and prior knowledge working with awarding agencies and preparing journal entries.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in grant accounting and reporting.
  • Proficient experience in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, V/X LOOKUPs, formulas, sum if, etc.).
  • Ability to handle several tasks and respond effectively to unexpected changes, requests, and deadline-driven situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with federal, state, and county-level grants.
  • Proficient experience in SAP Concur and Financial Edge (Blackbaud).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing all contract billings in accordance with the funding source and contract requirements.
  • Responsible for financial reporting in accordance with grant contracts.
  • Prepares and reconciles assigned balance sheets and performs account analysis monthly.
  • Assists directly with the preparation of the company's annual budgets.
  • Responsible for assisting the grants department by preparing grant proposal budgets and budget narratives as necessary.
  • Prepares and enters monthly journal entries, including accruals and reclassifying journal entries as needed.
  • Assists in the month-end close and bank reconciliation process.
  • Assists with preparing work papers for the annual audit as assigned.
  • Maintains work function in accordance with the standard operating procedures and internal controls.
  • Works directly with program staff in understanding financial requirements and objectives.
  • Examines and evaluates internal methods and procedures for adequacy of controls.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains an appropriate network of professional contacts, vendor relationships, and external resources.
