About The Position

Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School seeks a leave replacement resource teacher as needs arise, including absences, break and meeting coverage, and providing additional support. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with grammar school-aged students (pre-kindergarten to fifth grade) and an eagerness to collaborate with others. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate a strong interest in and understanding of child development, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and take initiative. The candidate should be driven to explore ways to reach all learners through differentiated instruction, student-centered teaching, positive classroom management, and a variety of assessment methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in elementary education.
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills and leadership qualities.
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong attention to detail, as well as follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives.
  • Strong background and familiarity in teaching literacy, pre-reading and math skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ease in effectively prioritizing multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Belief in and alignment with Columbia Grammar’s core beliefs and educational philosophy.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans as directed by the teacher or co-teacher.
  • Assist students in and out of the classroom.
  • Collaborate positively and respectfully with all members of the Grammar School community, including colleagues, school administrators and parents.
  • Supervise lunchroom and recesses, and perform other duties.
  • Participate or provide data on students and document observations about student behavior.
  • Communicate proactively and professionally about students with teaching and non-teaching staff, bearing in mind the impact of confidentiality regarding vulnerable persons.
  • Conduct all work activities in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working in a school community.
  • Any additional duties as assigned by the Divisional Director.
