About The Position

Paideia Academy is seeking qualified Grammar School Dean candidates. Qualified candidates would possess the qualities as described in the employment requirements and responsibilities in the following job description. The Grammar School Dean will be responsible for maintaining student and faculty culture, advising Grammar School faculty, leading department meetings, developing academic integrity plans, communicating with stakeholders, creating academic preparedness contracts, managing scheduling, pursuing professional development, and overseeing field trips and activities.

Requirements

  • Exemplify and articulate a saving and growing relationship with Christ. Be a person of Christian love, faith, truthfulness, and virtue.
  • Be active in a local Protestant Evangelical church, with a substantial record of service and leadership in the body of Christ.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to be trained in classical Christian educational methods.
  • Demonstrate a lifestyle in agreement with the Paideia Academy Vision, Philosophy, and Foundational Statements.
  • Be passionate about educating children in a Christian environment, and about the grade/subject to be taught.
  • Be willing to collaborate closely with parents in the education of their children.
  • Be committed to academic excellence.
  • Be committed to personal life-long learning.
  • Have read Douglas Wilson's book, The Case for Classical Christian Education and be in agreement with the vision and philosophy outlined.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain student culture in keeping with all policies and official school-wide documents.
  • Encourage students regularly to walk in accordance with scripture and the school's policy.
  • Provide discipline directly or indirectly for students in Grammar School.
  • Positively support students in their daily responsibilities.
  • Maintain faculty culture in keeping with all policies and official school-wide documents.
  • Encourage teachers regularly to walk in accordance with Scripture and the school's policies.
  • Positively support teachers in their daily responsibilities.
  • Council teachers with questions, frustrations, concerns, etc.
  • Observe teachers formally and provide written feedback each time.
  • Troubleshoot problems in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist teachers in understanding and implementing classical education.
  • Plan and lead department meetings once per month pertaining to the general issues regarding the Grammar School.
  • Record notes and communicate to all Grammar School faculty, including music and art teachers.
  • Develop student Academic Integrity Plans for all students requiring such in the Grammar School with the assistance and approval of the Academic Dean.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers, students, and administration concerning behavior problems or other concerns in and out of the classroom.
  • Communicate directives from administration to Grammar School faculty.
  • Gather data from teachers regarding necessary summer preparation work for Grammar School.
  • Write up contracts and plans for any current students in the Grammar School requiring them with the assistance and approval of the Academic Dean.
  • Create alternate schedules, ex. rehearsals or in-school activities, as it pertains to the Grammar School.
  • Create class schedules for each grade/subject taught in the Grammar School.
  • Pursue opportunities for professional development in school administration and pertaining to school culture, classical methods, and any other particular area which may benefit the faculty.
  • Complete the Administrator Professional Development worksheet.
  • Oversee the organization of field trips and in-school activities specific to the Grammar School.
