About The Position

This position is for a Grain Facility Operator in Training at Consolidated Grain and Barge (CGB). The program is designed to help individuals advance through a newly designed Career Path, with clear steps for increased responsibility and pay. The primary focus of the role is the safe and efficient loading and unloading of railcars and trucks with grain. The job involves performing a variety of duties based on the daily needs of the operation at a facility that handles grain transport via rail and truck.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to complete documentation requirements.
  • Ability to follow directions and use logical thought processes to interpret instructions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
  • Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to meet requirements of and utilize all applicable PPE.
  • Ability to meet requirements of PFT and fit testing, when applicable.
  • Ability to pass all required testing under FRA and DOT for this position (where applicable).
  • Ability to perform work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person, and over two-way radio (and recognize emergency alarms).
  • Ability to understand and communicate written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Transfer, load, and move grain to the appropriate location.
  • Perform rail duties such as prep, unload, load, and placement of rail cars, where applicable.
  • Perform duties associated with weighing trucks and grading grain.
  • Complete documentation accurately, legibly, and timely.
  • Perform general clean-up duties including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs, where applicable.
  • Maintain grain quality during storage and transfer.
  • Operate heavy equipment for product movement to storage, loading trucks, and loading rail (dependent on facility and location).
  • Operate, run, monitor, and shut down dryers (dependent on facility and location).
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment (dependent on facility and location).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
