The Graffiti Program Specialist, under minimal general supervision, performs day-to-day activities of the graffiti program and county beautification efforts. The incumbent assists the coordinator in the placement of work activities of probationers and ensures the accuracy of community service hour tracking. This role may involve assisting with the supervision of assigned probationers, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing operational and procedural activities, and coordinating activities. The specialist will instruct, guide, and check work, enforce rules and regulations, and counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony among clients. They will also assist with assignments of daily workload for community service workers, prioritizing, scheduling, and organizing workloads to meet deadlines, and assist in the placement, follow-up, and supervision of clients court-ordered to perform community service, ensuring proper standards of behavior. Maintaining contact with probation officers to advise of probationer's progress or lack of cooperation is also a key function. The role requires assisting in the management of multiple assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities. As assigned, the specialist will work in close collaboration with participating agencies to obtain correct records of hours performed. They may be required to testify in court and verify graffiti related to prosecution of graffiti cases, and make public presentations. Daily record keeping and logging of hours, operation and maintenance of an air compressor, safe operation of sand blasting equipment, operating a motor vehicle pulling a trailer through heavy traffic, and operating small tools, gardening tools, including power tools, weed eaters, tractors, bobcat, and other necessary skills for repairing tools are also part of the duties. Ordering and estimating supplies, preparing monthly statistics, and reporting problems involving probationers to the Coordinator or Supervisor of the Community Service Restitution Program are expected. Ensuring department and program policies, procedures, and safety methods are followed, and that community service equipment is properly used and maintained, including checking all truck units for safety equipment and personal safety gear, are crucial. The role involves operating standard to specialized equipment, assisting in the installation of new or enhanced equipment/systems, gathering materials and supplies, and performing manual labor. Working in close collaboration with participating agencies to monitor client participation, participating on committees/special projects, seeking additional responsibilities, responding to difficult citizen claims, inquiries, and complaints, and attending meetings, training, and information sessions are also part of the job. A commitment to excellent customer service and creating a high-quality work culture through training and mentoring is expected. Other duties as assigned include being available to work weekends, potentially working a flexible schedule, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. As disaster service workers, employees may be required to train on emergency response or perform emergency services.
