About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Ignatian Formation and the Bannan Forums, the Graduate Student Chaplain will provide spiritual direction and accompaniment to graduate students at SCU, with a focus on career and personal development and assisting the students in finding meaning and direction. The Chaplain will collaborate with members of the Ignatian Formation team as well as other key campus partners to help achieve the strategic priorities of the team and the Division of Mission and Ministry. This is a full-year, fixed term, .40 FTE, non benefits-eligible position that ends on June 30, 2027. The specific times and days will be negotiated with the supervisor.

Requirements

Advanced knowledge of and familiarity with Jesuit, Catholic mission and values
Advanced knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching
Knowledge of and familiarity/experience with domestic and international student immersion experiences
Demonstrated leadership in communicating effectively the intellectual and spiritual dimension of the mission of Jesuit higher education to a diverse range of audiences.
Demonstrated outstanding organizational and project management skills and data management acuity required
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, GoogleDocs required
Ability to represent the Ignatian Spirituality and Mission Formation programs, and the Division of Mission and Ministry more generally, in a range of internal and external settings.
Ability to meet deadlines, work autonomously and in a team environment
Ability to think strategically while balancing attention to detail and handling competing demands
Ability to take initiative and anticipate needs
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to communicate with a high level of sensitivity and tact
Demonstrated ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to oversee marketing, communication, and event planning
Demonstrated commitment to equity and respect in the workplace, intercultural awareness, and the ability to manage difficult and contentious situations
Bachelor’s degree required
Valid U.S. Driver’s License preferred

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated experience in giving the Spiritual Exercises in a religiously diverse environment, strongly preferred.
Master’s or doctoral degree preferred
Three years working in Jesuit higher education preferred

Responsibilities

Provide spiritual direction and accompaniment to graduate students at SCU
Assist with the implementation of programs for mission formation and engagement
Manage administrative processes in service to the Division’s priorities
Collaborate with the broader work of Mission and Ministry
Provide direct spiritual accompaniment to students, especially graduate students across the university
Create a space of pastoral care within each of the graduate schools
Facilitates discussions, group conversations, and programs that foster spiritual exploration
Support liturgical life at the university
Serves as a support and thought partner to the VP of Mission and Ministry, Ignatian Formation Team, and the Division Program Leaders as needed for formation opportunities for key audiences
Develops and reviews formation materials for groups, under the direction of the Director for Ignatian Formation
Supports planning and execution of spirituality and mission-related programs including: Search for What Matters, silent retreats, Weekly Examen, and other Ignatian-based formation events
Supports the follow-up and assessment efforts for these programs
Supports Division planning efforts
Supports budget reporting in given programmatic areas
Supports assessment efforts
Provides relevant support to other Division programs
Carries out other duties in support of the work of the Division
