About The Position

Learning begins in the classroom but there’s no better place to gain real-world experience than with Stantec. Interns are an integral part of our teams, working to solve some of the world's most complex challenges. As an intern, you’ll work alongside our experienced practitioners and with our clients and communities. This hands-on experience will equip you with practical skills, build your network, and provide opportunities that set you up for success. The Human Building Interaction (HBI) team explores how design influences human experiences-well-being, productivity, and daily interactions-across the physical space, specifically educational, residential, and workplace settings. We apply immersive technologies and mixed methods research to produce evidence-based insights that inform design outcomes. We are seeking a graduate student with strong technical and analytical capabilities to join us in developing a data analysis pipeline that supports cutting-edge research in sectors such as education, healthcare, and workplace design. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to projects that: Examine how workplace environments impact productivity and well-being. Evaluate the inclusiveness of educational settings for neurodiverse learners. Assess sensory accessibility and community integration for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. This internship provides a unique opportunity to support impactful, real-world research in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and workflow automation.
  • Strong foundation in statistical analysis, including time-series and multivariate methods.
  • Experience cleaning and processing large, multi-source timeseries datasets, example physiological, and environmental data.
  • Familiarity with API-based data collection and integration from third-party platforms.
  • Ability to build and maintain automated pipelines using tools such as VS Code, Jupyter Notebooks, and version control (Git).
  • Strong data visualization skills using tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, ggplot2 or similar for creating time series plots, multi-panel comparisons, and interactive dashboards.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented fast-paced research setting.
  • Applicants should be enrolled in a graduate program in one of the following (or a related) fields: Data Science or Computer Science (technical data processing, automation), Biomedical Engineering or Cognitive Science (physiological and behavioral data analysis), or Other fields with a focus on quantitative methods and interdisciplinary research.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement workflows for data organization, integration, and analysis across multimodal datasets.
  • Perform statistical analysis, including hypothesis testing, correlation analysis, and regression modeling.
  • Work with physiological, environmental, and behavioral data streams, integrating them with qualitative inputs such as surveys and interviews.
