GN Residency February - Surgical Trauma/Burn PCU
About The Position
The Texas Health Graduate Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive, evidence-based onboarding program with a 15-month employment commitment. It offers new graduate nurses an exciting opportunity to gain the experience, judgment, skills, and confidence to successfully navigate the complexity of hospital life. The program includes a guided clinical experience with an instructor-led core curriculum, a formal mentoring program, informative debriefing/self-care sessions, and supportive 360-degree evaluations. Residents will participate in learning experiences on their selected home units and rotate/cross-train through other departments to gain expanded nursing experience vital to complex patient care.
Requirements
- ADN (Associates Nursing Degree) is required upon hire.
- Current RN licensure (Texas or Compact State). Boards MUST be passed and results verified by noon the Wednesday prior to start date.
- BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
Nice To Haves
- BSN preferred.
- Graduated within the last 12 months preferred.
- Less than one year experience at the time the residency begins preferred.
- Have not previously completed a THR nursing residency preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide care to patients with trauma-related injuries and pre- and post-surgical patients requiring specialized monitoring and interventions.
- Care for patients sustaining sudden multi-system injuries, including blunt and/or penetrating trauma injuries.
- Provide continuous cardiac monitoring.
- Manage chest tubes.
- Perform wound/skin care.
- Titrate insulin drips for patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) diagnosis.
- Care for respiratory compromised patients requiring specialized equipment, including continuous respiratory interventions.
- Provide tracheostomy care.
- Manage patients with multi-system organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, hematology, GI Bleeds, Renal/Liver Failure, Acid-Base and Electrolyte Imbalances, and cardiac abnormalities.
- Provide intermediate level of care at a 3:1 patient to nurse ratio.
- Administer medication management, including continuous and titratable IV medications.
