Graduate Nurse Residency (Ortho Trauma) – October 2026
About The Position
This Graduate Nurse Residency Program is designed for new graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) and offers a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive experience. The program integrates into the hospital's education structure, providing a guided clinical experience with an instructor-led core curriculum, a formal mentoring program, debriefing/self-care sessions, and supportive 360-degree evaluations. Residents will work on their selected home units and also rotate through other departments to broaden their nursing experience, which is vital for complex patient care. The Texas Health Nurse Residency Program is an evidence-based onboarding program with a 15-month employment commitment, aimed at equipping new graduate nurses with the experience, judgment, skills, and confidence needed to manage the complexities of hospital life.
Requirements
- ADN (Associates Nursing Degree) is required upon hire.
- Current RN licensure (Texas or Compact State). Boards MUST be passed, and results verified by noon the Wednesday prior to start date.
- BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
Nice To Haves
- BSN preferred.
- Graduated within the last 12 months preferred.
- Less than one-year experience at the time the residency begins preferred.
- Have not previously completed a THR nursing residency preferred.
- Enrolled or completed a DEU with THR preferred.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a guided clinical experience with an instructor-led core curriculum.
- Engage in a formal mentoring program.
- Attend informative debriefing/self-care sessions.
- Participate in supportive 360-degree evaluations.
- Work on personally selected home units.
- Rotate/cross train through other departments to gain expanded nursing experience.
- Fulfill a 15-month employment commitment.
- Obtain current RN licensure (Texas or Compact State) and pass Boards prior to start date.
- Maintain BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support.
