About The Position

As an entry-level Civil Geotech Gradiate Engineer at Black & Veatch, you will play a meaningful role in addressing some of the world’s most critical infrastructure challenges. This position can sit out of the office locations: Ann Arbor, MI, Overland Park, KS. Join our team as Civil Geotech Graduate Engineer supporting our geotechnical projects.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Civil, Structural, or engineering geology with civil engineering classes preferred.
  • Masters in geotechnical degree is preferred.
  • Soil mechanics and foundation engineering courses preferred.
  • 3.0 GPA preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
  • Basic industry knowledge and technology trends.
  • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develops familiarity by reading, understanding and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures.
  • Provide geotechnical design support for both above and underground structures, grading, drainage, and pavements.
  • Support the analysis and design of foundations, cut & fill retention structures, embankments and slopes, ground improvement and dewatering systems.
  • Participates in project coordination meetings and works with project teams to resolve design challenges and incorporate client requirements.
  • Performs routine research and develops recommendations for foundations, retention structures, slopes, and access roads.
  • Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis.
  • Assists with development of project schedules, cost estimates, and engineering deliverables to support successful project execution.
  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
  • Develops and applies knowledge of engineering software, design tools, and digital delivery methods.
