About The Position

The Nature-Based Transpersonal Counseling department seeks a returning student to serve as Graduate Assistant. In this position, the GA will develop leadership and facilitation skills, learn about organizational planning, and practice instructing hard skills and facilitating community-building events.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and their impact on equity, access, and opportunity.
  • Must demonstrate understanding and appreciation for Naropa University's values and the capacity to integrate and embody these values in work, communication, collaboration, and workplace behaviors.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of backpacking, including food preparation, safety considerations, water purification techniques, LNT, navigation, and use and maintenance of stoves and other essential gear.
  • Teaching or leadership experience demonstrating ability to instruct and guide others.
  • Experience with co-leadership and group dynamics, showing ability to communicate clearly, with ability to resolve minor conflicts in a respectful way.
  • Self-motivated and independent working style.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a student ambassador, resource for prospective students, and assist at admissions interviews.
  • Help maintain and organize group gear and assist with food purchasing.
  • Provide instruction for students’ trip preparation, including food preparation for backpacking, Leave No Trace (LNT) skills, camp craft, and wayfinding.
  • Plan community-building events and learning opportunities for current students.
  • Increase community outreach, including to former alums and like-minded organizations.
