2026-27 Graduate Assistant 12 month - Physics and Astronomy
About The Position
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is seeking graduate students for a 12-month Graduate Assistant position for the 2026-27 academic year. This role involves assisting faculty with teaching undergraduate lectures and labs, handling and training students on equipment, preparing course materials, evaluating student work, and tutoring students. The appointment dates are Fall 2026 (August 21, 2026 – December 23, 2026) and Spring 2027 (January 21, 2027– May 29, 2027). Students can work up to 20 hours per week during the semester. The specific duties will depend on the assignment area and faculty supervisor's needs.
Requirements
- Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
- Graduate Assistant must be currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
- Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, in good academic standing
- Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree
- Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students
- Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Satisfactorily completed background check.
- Disclosure of any final administrative or judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer of employment).
