About The Position

The Graduate Analyst, Trading Analytics supports ConocoPhillips' Strategy, Analytics & Portfolio Optimization organization, gaining hands-on exposure across market analytics, economics and quantitative analytics work streams that underpin our trading, marketing, and risk decisions. These roles span our commodity portfolio of crude oil, NGLs, natural gas, power, and LNG. Depending on the complexity of each role, rotations can last between 6-18 months. During this time, the new hire is encouraged to perform as a fully functioning member of our team and participate in the new hire training curriculum. Upon completion of each rotation, the new hire will be evaluated based on their individual performance. Continuance in the program and eventual placement into a permanent role is subject to the individual's performance and feedback from their supervisors during the New Hire Development Program. Assignments will be at our site located in Houston, Texas.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institution.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Business, or other related quantitative or technical field, or foreign equivalent.
  • Current level in college: Senior or Graduate Student.
  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2026 through Summer 2027.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Strong foundational skills in Excel including exposure to at least one programming or statistical language (e.g., Python and R).
  • Exposure to analysis, modeling and visualization using common programs and applications (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Excel/VBA).
  • Coursework or project experience in statistics, econometrics, financial modeling, optimization, or data science.
  • Interest in energy or commodity markets (crude oil, natural gas, NGLs, power, or LNG).
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity and a desire to deeply understand the logic, mathematics, and mechanics underlying the models and tools being built.
  • Understands how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals.
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate and explain technical or analytical work to non-technical audiences.
