About The Position

CK Contractors and Development LLC is seeking a Grading Foreman to manage and direct grading crews involved in site work. This role is responsible for overseeing daily tasks, interpreting project plans, coordinating with site management, and reporting on work progress. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with heavy equipment and a strong understanding of dirt work, including excavation, grade work, surveying, and final excavating. This position requires a commitment to quality, accuracy, and safety, including coaching team members on proper techniques and maintaining awareness of potential hazards.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years’ experience as a Grade Foreman.
  • Demonstrated ability of managing people, equipment, and materials in a safe, efficient, and ethical manner.
  • Must be able to perform the essential tasks satisfactorily.
  • Must be well organized with a sense of urgency.
  • Must demonstrate excellent safety awareness, and a willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards.
  • Monitors the implementation of safety programs and processes; Provides coaching for improvement.
  • Must be able to work with others to achieve company results.
  • Have the ability to think critically to analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Effective communication with others is critical, both verbally and nonverbally; this includes the ability to listen to the ideas of others.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be at work when scheduled and have the ability to travel.
  • Periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime hours are expected.
  • Must be able to adapt and adjust to changing situations and priorities with a positive attitude.
  • Must wear proper attire at all times including safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention is necessary to safety and effectively complete work tasks.
  • Must be able to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
  • Must be capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations, using ladders or crawling, as required.
  • Must be able to perform essential tasks in less than favorable conditions.
  • All applicants to whom a conditional offer of employment is made shall undergo and pass pre-employment screening, including a drug test prior to beginning work.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily tasks of the grading crew.
  • Read and understand project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate with site management for all grading.
  • Report on work to Superintendent.
  • Inspect work sites throughout construction process to ensure the quality and accuracy of work.
  • Survey for potential hazards or safety concerns.
  • Coach team members by teaching them proper grading techniques.
  • Monitor crews for organizational structure, sizing, crew mix ratios, and wage compliance in conjunction with Superintendent.
  • Maintain active awareness of surroundings near the equipment to maintain the safety of all employees from potential hazards such as underground utility lines, other equipment, and other workers.
  • Complete all required paperwork and submit as required.
  • Interpret production schedules and comply with all federal, state, and other regulations, including Erosion Control Laws and Regulations.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
