About The Position

McLean School, a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks applicants for a Boys Grades 5 & 6 Basketball Coach for the Winter 2026-2027 season, which runs from November through the beginning of February. For more than 70 years, McLean School has helped bright K-12 students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college-preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. Requirements

• Knowledgeable of the fundamentals and techniques of competitive basketball

• Experience as a youth, high school, and/or club-level coach
• Experience with providing differentiated instruction to athletes of all levels
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• An ability to build relationships and work well with others
• A sharp perspective on the role of athletics in the educational experience

Responsibilities

• Be a positive role model
• Plan, direct, and administer policies for all team practices and matches
• Communicate team expectations at the start of the season
• Design training sessions that are dynamic, engaging, and provide challenge
• Create an environment of respect that is rooted in hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship, and supporting teammates
• Communicate with athletes and parents
• Ensure proper safety measures are observed when conducting team activities
• Attend seasonal coaches' meetings
• Give appropriate attention, care, and follow-up to student-athletes who are injured or ill, including filling out injury report forms
