About The Position

Weyerhaeuser has a Grader position available at our lumber manufacturing facility in Grifton, NC. The incumbent MUST be committed to safety, have a positive attitude and excellent work ethic. This role involves cleaning, calibrating, aligning, and performing minor maintenance on equipment like the Lucidyne system in the Planer Mill. The Grader is responsible for ensuring product specifications are met, managing lumber quality, and learning to grade dimensional lumber to pass SPIB certification. The position also includes hand grading reentry lumber, verifying the accuracy of the auto grading system, and monitoring performance of moisture meter, stamping, and grading systems, making adjustments or performing basic maintenance as needed. Other duties may be required, including operating equipment.

Requirements

  • Self-starter with the ability to work without direct supervision, as necessary.
  • Able to perform basic math and basic computer skills
  • A sense of urgency in terms of maximizing production and minimizing downtime is necessary in this type of manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work closely with supervisors and others, being a team player/leader
  • Good communication skills and demonstrate positive attitude.
  • Maintain a clean workstation.
  • Exhibit good performance, safety and attendance records.
  • Tasks performed involve work with equipment and material that require familiarity with formal safety procedures and the following of these procedures in order to maintain the safety of the work environment.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions pertaining to job.
  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift: Monday-Friday 4:30-4:30 alternating day and night shift, some weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, calibrate, align and perform minor maintenance on the Lucidyne and other value related equipment in the Planer Mill
  • Responsible for working in and creating a safe environment and culture
  • Ensures specifications of high value products are met and manages overall lumber quality on the Dry Side (Planer Mill)
  • Learn to grade 2” dimensional lumber and pass SPIB certification process
  • Hand grade reentry lumber and watch lumber to verify Lucidyne accuracy on the line
  • Monitors the auto grading system and performs spot check for quality issues
  • Monitors performance of moisture meter, stamping, and grading systems, and makes adjustments or performs basic maintenance as needed on all value adding equipment in the Planer department (i.e. cleans, calibrates/aligns, and troubleshoots problems)
  • Other duties as required including but not limited to operating equipment
