About The Position

Vernon Paving LTD, a division of Amrize Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking a Grader Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least two (2) years of finish grading experience in road construction and a strong understanding of crowns, slopes, drainage, and final grading. Vernon Paving has established itself as a trusted provider of paving solutions, catering to the diverse needs of residential, commercial, and municipal clients. Venom Paving is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages starting at $38-41/hr subject to the qualifications and experience. We offer a safe work environment, on the job training, up to date well-kept equipment and room for advancement. These positions are based out of our Armstrong location and work sites are throughout the North Okanagan. Company vehicles are provided to commute to and from office to worksites.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of operating a grader.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Heavy equipment experience
  • Must be willing to commute to various job sites within the North Okanagan.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
  • A pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and a criminal record check, will be required

  • Experience with GPS-controlled grading systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers and supervisors to ensure proper road alignment and drainage.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, survey stakes, and project plans.
  • Follow safety regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
  • Operate a motor grader to achieve precise road grades and slopes.
  • Perform finishing work, including final grading for road surfaces.
  • Inspect, maintain, and ensure the safe operation of equipment.
