About The Position

The Grader/Blade Operator operates motor graders and other assigned heavy equipment to perform rough, fine, and finish grading in accordance with project specifications. The role grades roadways, subgrades, shoulders, slopes, and base materials to required elevations and tolerances, and spreads, mixes, shapes, and dresses roadway materials for construction activities. The operator follows grade stakes, plans, elevations, and instructions from foremen, survey personnel, and grade checkers while monitoring jobsite conditions and hazards.

The position includes safely operating equipment on active construction sites and public roadways, inspecting and maintaining assigned equipment, reporting malfunctions and safety concerns, and assisting with other construction activities as assigned. Work takes place outdoors in varying weather and around heavy equipment, construction traffic, and active highway operations. Extended hours, including occasional weekends, may be required based on project needs.

Requirements

• Previous experience operating motor graders or similar heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with foremen, supervisors, coworkers, and other jobsite personnel.
• Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, construction plans, elevations, and project specifications.
• Knowledge of grading operations, roadway construction, and grade control practices.
• Ability to recognize and report equipment defects, safety concerns, and hazardous conditions.
• Willingness and ability to perform manual work as required.

Responsibilities

• Operate motor graders and other assigned heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform rough grading, fine grading, and finish grading according to project specifications.
• Grade roadways, subgrades, shoulders, slopes, and base materials to required elevations and tolerances.
• Use grader controls to adjust the blade and scarifier for the desired grading results.
• Spread, mix, shape, and dress roadway materials to prepare surfaces for construction.
• Follow grade stakes, plans, elevations, and directions from foremen, survey personnel, and grade checkers.
• Observe working conditions and identify potential hazards, underground utilities, obstructions, and other jobsite concerns.
• Operate equipment safely on active construction sites and public roadways while remaining aware of personnel, equipment, and traffic.
• Perform pre-operational and post-operational equipment inspections.
• Clean, lubricate, and perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, safety concerns, and changing jobsite conditions to supervision.
• Assist with other construction activities and operate additional equipment as assigned.
• Follow company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
