About The Position

Integration Charter School is dedicated to providing innovative pathways to college that fully integrate students living with emotional challenges and others with special needs. In building a family of associated schools that share this common mission, ICS strives to fill gaps in public education. When fully realized, ICS, in conjunction with local public schools, will provide Staten Island parents of special needs children with an array of options which is richer than that enjoyed by any other community in the United States. Under the direction of the principal and/or assistant principal, the school-based teacher lead provides curricular and instructional leadership for their respective grade band. Grade-Team Leaders serve in the development and implementation of strong instructional practices that lead to stellar student achievement.

  • Understanding of school student-achievement data and New York Charter School Standards
  • Thorough understanding of instructional best practice for elementary and middle school.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn New York State Graduation requirements

  • Previous experience in a teacher leadership role strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports grade teams through the process of data driven inquiry and instruction.
  • Serves as a model for best practices in the respective grade band.
  • Create grade-wide norms, traditions, and celebrations that lend to a well-rounded fun and nurturing learning experience.
  • Send out weekly grade-level newsletters and/or communications to students, families and grade team members.
  • Ensure strong systems for grade-wide student attendance and engagement
  • Establish a structure for team collaboration, decision-making, and grade level team meetings.
  • Set grade level team collaboration norms and ensure they are implemented by the grade level team.
  • Acts as a mentor for new teachers.
  • Assists in grade-level data analysis to monitor progress toward grade-level goals.
  • Within consultation with the principal and/or assistant principal, conduct learning walks and observations to provide teachers with quality feedback to improve practice.
  • Assist in the coordination and/or supervision of after-school, Regents grading, or Saturday School State assessment preparation programming. (Tutor at least twice during each Saturday School test prep administration.)
  • Facilitates grade team meetings to examine student progress (e.g., Kid Talk).
  • If applicable, regularly collaborates with Department Chairs to ensure continuity of professional learning communities within the school.
  • Maintains horizontal alignment of content & curriculum, expectations of rigor, professional development opportunities, and pedagogy.
