About The Position

The Grade Foreman plans, assigns, schedules, and supervises the work of assigned crew engaged in the construction project. This role involves supervising, coordinating, and scheduling activities of the crew and project, reading specifications like blueprints to determine construction requirements, and ensuring work adheres to plan/specification requirements. The Foreman will oversee crews working on the construction, reconstruction, and maintenance of streets, highways, driveways, structures, and parking lots, including grading, excavation, basing, paving, and patching, as well as land leveling projects. Responsibilities also include assisting with closeout documentation, inspecting work progress and sites for safety and specification compliance, locating and marking site locations, coordinating work with other project activities, and maintaining daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, and schedule updates. The role requires promoting a culture of safety, health, and cleanliness, attending job site meetings, assisting in building written work plans and job hazard analyses, estimating material and worker requirements, requisitioning materials and equipment, and coordinating with managerial or technical personnel to resolve obstacles. The Foreman will also analyze worker or production problems, recommend solutions, discipline and document worker issues, instruct and train employees on construction methods and safety procedures, maintain equipment, and initiate personnel actions such as promotions and evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering; 5+ years in heavy civil and related functions plus thorough knowledge of civil construction industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Excellent skills in P6 scheduling software.
  • Excellent computer skills Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, On Center OST, and MS Project.
  • High energy level and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Understands and abides by all government processes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule activities of the crew and project.
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements, plan procedures, and ensure work is within plan/specification requirements.
  • Supervise one or more crews engaged in the construction, reconstruction, and maintenance of streets, highways, driveways, structures, and parking lots; including grading, excavation, basing, paving, and patching.
  • Supervise land leveling projects.
  • Assist with closeout documentation for each phase of the job as completed.
  • Inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and ensure that specifications are met.
  • Locate, measure, and mark site locations or placement of structures or equipment.
  • Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities.
  • Maintain daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates and E-mail correspondence to keep the various people involved with the project informed of important issues.
  • Promote and maintain a culture that values safety, health and cleanliness.
  • Attend and participate in job site meetings to include weekly Toolbox Meeting with crew.
  • Assist the project team in building written work plans, job hazard analysis, and daily task reminders.
  • Estimate and coordinate material, equipment, and worker requirements to complete jobs; schedule and assign work accordingly to ensure production aligns with project goals.

  • Coordinate activities with managerial or technical personnel, other departments, or contractors to resolve obstacles.
  • Analyze worker or production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational plans; discipline and document worker issues.
  • Instruct and train employees in construction methods, safe operation of equipment, tools and job techniques, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Maintain equipment in a high state of readiness through daily and proactive maintenance.
  • Suggest or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, hires, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and documentation.
