About The Position

BELLINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS BELLINGHAM, MASSACHUSETTS is seeking a Grade 6/7 Science Teacher. This role involves establishing clear learning objectives, maintaining a conducive classroom environment, and keeping accurate records. The teacher will also hold office hours for students and parents, strive for professional competence, attend staff meetings, and serve on committees. A key aspect of the role is working with colleagues and EL consultants to develop curriculum and implement Expeditionary Learning (EL) core practices, including in-depth learning expeditions. The position requires experience with diverse learners in heterogeneously grouped classes and implementing culturally sustaining teaching practices. Enthusiasm for the school's mission, themes of nature, technology, and community, and understanding of charter public school responsibilities are essential. The role demands energy, flexibility, and a sense of adventure to thrive as a core faculty member in a developing school. Experience in small group/SEL formats like advisory or crew is also valued.

Requirements

Appropriate MA DESE Certification Required (Middle School: Science 1-6 or 5-12)
At least one year of full-time teaching experience or completion of a student teaching program
Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
Patience, resilience, and cultural sensitivity.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

Successful experience teaching Science to middle school students, with a minimum of three years in a public middle school preferred.
Strong background in Science, as demonstrated through academic preparation, professional experience, and personal interests; strong skills with computer technology.

Responsibilities

Establish clear objectives for all units, daily lessons, and projects and effectively communicate these objectives to students both verbally and virtually on google classroom.
Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all learners.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Hold office hours for students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend monthly staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Work with colleagues and EL consultants to develop curriculum and implement EL core practices, including in-depth learning expeditions.
Implement culturally sustaining teaching practices.
Work hard as a member of the core faculty in a young school.
Work with students in a small group/SEL format such as advisory or crew.
Other duties as assigned by building principal/administration.
