About The Position

To create flexible elementary grade programs and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with all students; to motivate, and develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, by each student’s language proficiency ability: and to establish good relationships with parents, staff members, and their administrators.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid RI Certification: Elementary Education Teacher, Grades 1-6
  • Must hold a valid RI Certification with either: All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher, Grades PK-12 or ESL Specialist/Consultant, Grades PK-12
  • Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training

  • Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student
  • Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process
  • Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and appropriate

Responsibilities

  • Employs a variety of English as a Second Language (ESL) methodologies and instruction media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved; pulls EL students for Tier 2 or 3 groups for English Language Development (ELD)/Academic Language Development (ALD) support
  • Develops lesson plans, and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Provides learning experiences in reading, language arts, pre-reading, mathematics, and science to students, utilizing courses of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program
  • Identifies students’ needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides, maintains required inventory records
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program
  • Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required
  • Participates in faculty committees and attends after-school events when able
  • Facilitates WIDA Screening and ACCESS testing
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee
