About The Position

This is a .4 FTE non-continuing leave replacement position for a Grade 1 Dual Language (English/Spanish) Teacher at College Place Elementary for the 2026-27 school year ONLY. Working in collaboration with colleagues, the elementary dual language classroom teacher will create a classroom environment that implements a district approved curriculum to ensure an equitable, engaging, and positive learning experience for all dual language students. Candidates must demonstrate oral, written, and reading Spanish language proficiency either by OSPI bilingual certification or the ACTFL assessment. The ACTFL assessment will be administered as part of the interview process. Preference will be given to candidates that currently have an ELL, ESOL, or Bilingual endorsement. SIOP training and GLAD training offered by the Multilingual Education Department will be required for all new employees unless they can show evidence of having completed SIOP and GLAD training previously. Training will need to be completed within the first two years of employment.

Requirements

Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsements in either Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education in addition to a Spanish Bilingual Education endorsement or Spanish ACTFL assessment, or the ability to obtain the needed qualifications prior to the position start date.
Oral, written, and reading Spanish language proficiency either by OSPI bilingual certification or the ACTFL assessment.

Completed SIOP and GLAD training previously.

Responsibilities

Instructs students using strategies conducive to dual-language immersion, such as sheltered instruction and cooperative learning.
Collaborates in a professional learning community with other teachers, support staff, and others as appropriate, in addressing the needs of students, developing effective teaching and learning practices in Spanish and English.
Conducts planning for lessons using commonly accepted professional dual language immersion practices (content, goals, assessment, re-teaching, etc.) and consistent with school/district approved curriculum and instructional practice. The teacher uses research-based instructional strategies in planning lessons to make the teaching and learning more relevant to students (e.g., contextual learning opportunities).
Utilizes differentiated and sheltered content instructional strategies, and/or English language development strategies to instruct students with varying levels of English language proficiency.
Uses a variety of formal and informal learning assessments to monitor student progress toward achievement of the learning objectives and modify instructional methods and materials as needed.
Communicates positively and regularly with monolingual English/Spanish and limited English speaking parents and/or legal guardians in the areas of growth, student progress, and teacher expectations; develop meaningful collaboration between home and school.
Participates in professional learning opportunities in support of District-wide mission, vision and goals.
Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments.
