About The Position

Granite Construction is seeking a GPS Dozer Operator to join their team. This role involves operating a tractor equipped with a concave blade to efficiently push material, level terrain, and distribute earth for road and building construction. The position includes on-the-job training and requires the ability to finish slopes and stay busy. Requirements

  • GPS experience able to push material efficiently, able to finish slopes and stay busy.
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
  • Proper certification required
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program required.
  • Appropriate training and experience required
  • Read engineering drawing
  • Practice good safety habits
  • Work in dusty or dirty surroundings
  • Follow instructions and meet set standards
  • Judge distances and slopes accurately
  • Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
  • Stoop, bend, and crouch
  • Use hands, arms, and legs fully
  • See well (either naturally or with correction)
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Operates tractor equipped with concave blade attached across front to gouge out, level, and distribute earth and to push trees and rocks from land preparatory to constructing roads and buildings.
  • Fastens attachments to tractor with clevis or wedge-pin hitches.
  • Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
  • Moves levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.
  • Moves levers and depresses pedals to maneuver tractor and raise, lower, and tilt attachment to clear right-of-way.
  • Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut.
  • Drives bulldozer in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade.
  • May grease, oil, and repair tractor.
