Role Overview: This position will serve as a Survey Department Intern for the CPM Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Working towards an Associates or Bachelor Degree in Land Surveying, or related field.
  • Relevant work experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT.
  • Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process.
  • Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to operate computer tools.
  • Good research and writing skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts.
  • Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the survey crew in the field gathering Preliminary Engineering data (mostly topographic and planimetric information) by using standard survey equipment. The equipment used is mostly Trimble brand and may include data collectors, GNSS (GPS), Robotic Total Stations, Terrestrial LiDAR Scanning, or UAS/UAV photogrammetry or LiDAR.
  • Experience some MicroStation (InRoads) fieldwork collection and processing techniques.
  • Complies with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures;
  • Follow the guidance and direction of crew leaders in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.
