About The Position

This position will serve as a Survey Intern for the CPM Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to Survey Operations Manager.

Requirements

Working towards a Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Surveying or a related field
Relevant work experience preferred
Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
Analytical skills
Ability to handle multiple projects
Ability to operate computer tools
Good research and writing skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances

Responsibilities

Sets up and operates equipment to obtain survey data & perform calculations for determination of precise measurements;
Operates higher level survey equipment including automatic level, total station, electronic data collectors, robotic total stations, and GPS equipment in order to obtain survey data & calculate precise measurements & traversing and leveling operations (e.g., angles, distance, elevations);
Drives state vehicles to transport equipment (e.g., automatic level, GPS equipment, total station, magnetic locators, and robotic total stations) to job site;
Plot field data sing CADD (Computer Aided Design Drawings) software for the preparation of survey drawings;
Other duties as assigned
