About The Position

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), a national not-for-profit association representing over 111,000 veterinarians, is seeking a Government Relations Coordinator to join its Federal Government Relations and State Advocacy Divisions in Washington, D.C. This role provides administrative support for the division's activities and supports governance entities like the AVMA Legislative Advisory Committee. Responsibilities include meeting planning, agenda preparation, distributing materials, organizing Capitol Hill visits, and processing expense reports. The position requires a passion for AVMA's mission, a customer service orientation, and strong collaboration skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years’ administrative office experience.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Zoom, and database management software.
  • Experience in creating and manipulating database files.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, the legislative/regulatory process.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Functions well autonomously and as a self-motivated team member.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, as needed.
  • Ability to travel (approximately 5-10%) on behalf of the Association, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Association experience is preferred.
  • Experience with grassroots management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support for the Federal Government Relations and State Advocacy Division activities.
  • Provides administrative staff support to governance entities, such as the AVMA Legislative Advisory Committee.
  • Manages meeting planning and logistics.
  • Prepares agendas.
  • Distributes meeting materials.
  • Organizes Capitol Hill visits.
  • Processes expense reports.
