About The Position

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry and is looking for a Government Affairs Manager II for the Northwest region. This role is crucial for navigating the evolving landscape of state and local policy in the Pacific Northwest. The manager will build relationships with policymakers, shape legislative and regulatory outcomes, and ensure Instacart is prepared for policy shifts. The goal is to establish a well-developed advocate network, proactive campaign infrastructure, and a consistent voice on key issues in the region.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of state or local government, policy, or corporate government relations experience
  • Established policymaker relationships with confidence engaging elected officials and executives alike
  • Deep understanding of state and local lawmaking and regulatory processes
  • Strategic thinker with polished oral and written presentation skills
  • Proven ability to thrive under pressure, balancing long and short-term priorities to deliver results
  • Resourceful and entrepreneurial with a bias towards action, and willingness to travel frequently
  • Collaborative approach with a positive, can-do attitude, and adherence to internal rules and protocols for travel, expenses, budgeting, and tracking

Responsibilities

  • Establish a robust policymaker relationship network across northwest state and local government, covering key officials and influencers, with the potential to expand into additional states.
  • Craft and execute legislative, regulatory, and political strategies to advance Instacart's state and local policy goals, including preparing for and delivering testimony at hearings and participating in regulatory proceedings.
  • Build and maintain a coalition of third-party political, advocacy, and industry allies to support strategic policy objectives, including active representation in trade associations.
  • Collaborate with Policy Development, Legal, and Public Engagement teams to create integrated advocacy campaigns and coherent state and local policy solutions for key legislative priorities.
  • Manage external consultant relationships and annual government affairs budgets effectively, providing regular reports and internal materials to keep cross-functional stakeholders informed of policy developments.
