About The Position

The Government Affairs Director serves as a senior-level strategist and advocate within T-Mobile’s Government Affairs team, responsible for developing and executing high-impact advocacy and engagement initiatives across all levels of government and with key third-party organizations. This role operates independently, providing subject matter expertise and policy leadership without direct people management responsibilities. The Government Affairs Director acts as a principal interface with senior policymakers, industry leaders, and internal executives to shape and support the company’s public policy objectives. We are seeking a candidate with experience working in California, a strong understanding of state policy issues, and established relationships within California state government.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (JD, MPA, MBA, or similar) preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or public policy, including significant experience leading initiatives.
  • Specific experience lobbying in the state of California.
  • Demonstrated success working independently with senior government officials and internal executives.
  • Expert-level understanding of legislative, regulatory, and public policy processes.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to influence and advise at senior levels.
  • Highly self-directed and capable of managing multiple complex initiatives with minimal oversight.
  • Strong negotiation, coalition-building, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex, high-profile advocacy initiatives on legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues critical to the business.
  • Develop and implement government engagement strategies that advance corporate priorities and mitigate external risks.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with senior officials, policymakers, and key external stakeholders across assigned issue areas or regions.
  • Draft and deliver executive-level policy briefings, white papers, talking points, and legislative testimony.
  • Provide expert advice to internal business leaders on the policy landscape and strategic positioning.
  • Represent the company at external events, hearings, coalitions, and public policy forums.
  • Collaborate across business units to ensure policy alignment and support companywide advocacy campaigns
  • Track and analyze legislative and regulatory developments; provide proactive recommendations and risk assessments.
  • Oversee the work of external lobbyists.
