About The Position

We are Skyward, a people-centered business focused on human advancement through information technology. We are a diverse, creative, and collaborative team driven by a civic tech mission. Our values of Integrity, Compassion, Inquisitiveness, Unconventionality, and Authenticity guide our actions. We are seeking a Platform Governance & Reporting Engineer who believes dashboards should tell a story, automates manual reporting tasks, and understands that good governance enables rapid, safe platform operation. If you enjoy transforming raw platform data into actionable decisions, we encourage you to apply.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and 5+ years in DevOps, platform, or systems engineering.
  • Solid AWS and DevOps skills: IaC (Terraform, Ansible), CI/CD, and cloud-native monitoring.
  • Real experience with observability and reporting tooling (Datadog, CloudWatch, Splunk, or similar).
  • Comfort scripting and automating in Python or Bash.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with platform governance or FinOps (cost/usage reporting, showback/chargeback).
  • Familiarity with FISMA, RMF, ARS, or IS2P2 governance.
  • Previous experience supporting CMS or another federal agency.

Responsibilities

  • Help CMS run its enterprise AI platform with the visibility and governance that keep it healthy and trusted.
  • Stand up monitoring, metrics, and dashboards (think Datadog and cloud-native tooling) that turn platform health into something the whole team can see.
  • Replace manual status-gathering with automated pipelines that produce clean, on-demand governance and performance reporting.
  • Define and enforce the guardrails (usage, access, and operational standards) that keep a multi-team platform running smoothly.
  • Use infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD so governance and reporting are built in, not bolted on.
  • Collaborate across engineering, security, and CMS stakeholders in a badgeless, one-team culture.

  • Medical, dental, vision insurance
  • 15 days of paid leave
  • 7 days of sick leave
  • 2 days bereavement leave
  • 11 paid Federal holidays
  • Up to 40 hours for jury duty
  • 401K with 4% employer contribution (and no vesting period)
