About The Position

Responsible for providing quality instruction to adults in a basic and secondary learning program to ensure their ability to complete a GED program.

Requirements

  • Ability to produce and deliver in person instruction.
  • Uses GoodGRADS Curriculum with Illinois Career and College Readiness Standards (CCRS) to guide instruction
  • Possesses content area knowledge and teaching skills required for subjects and populations taught.
  • Must be able to teach using online platforms and in-person.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively perform all functions of the job.
  • Regularly required to sit and talk or listen.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Teach effectively and in various methods.
  • Communicate effectively with all GoodGRADS staff.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must be compassionate, reliable, and trustworthy and have the ability to maintain high confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a structured team.
  • Ability to maintain high expectations of learners while having compassion for the unpredictability of adult learners’ lives.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification after being hired and must successfully complete OIG training annually.
  • Available for employment year-round.
  • Working with multiple participants with various educational levels and barriers.
  • A combination of education and relevant work experience that aligns with the duties of this position.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with individuals with barriers, understand, and communicate with diverse groups.
  • The ability to motivate and assist individuals in learning.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with basic computer navigation and word processing skills are essential.
  • Must be available for employment year-round.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with high school and adult age students in non-traditional, and/or in adult education setting highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide constant communications with GoodGRADS Staff regarding students’ needs and progress.
  • Provide post testing results and other reporting to Adult Education Program Manager.
  • Actively recruit adult learners to the GED program by attending events and working with community partners to share information about the GoodGRADS program.
  • Design standard-based instructional units and lesson plans

  • Plans and delivers high-quality, evidence-based instruction
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques.
  • Designs instruction to build learners’ technology and digital literacy skills.
  • Effectively communicate to motivate and engage learners
  • Engage in active listening, dialogue and questioning to facilitate support and accountability of goals and commitments
  • Model an understanding of diversity
  • Participates in professional development networks and learning communities.
  • Participates in and contributes to program improvement efforts.
