About The Position

Manages technical work associated with the care, maintenance, playing conditions, and operation of the golf course. This includes scheduling employees, purchasing and maintaining equipment, and procuring supplies. The role also involves developing subordinates through coaching, training, guiding, evaluating, correcting, and disciplining.

Requirements

  • Skills in operating equipment used in golf course maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of turf grasses, turf diseases, pesticide and fertilizer applications, and aeration.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems operations and repairs.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf and USGA rules/regulations.
  • Ability to supervise and organize the work of others.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, senior management, patrons, user groups, and the general public.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pesticide Applicator's license/Ornamental turf and pest control required or ability to acquire within six months of employment.
  • Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of experience preferred.
  • Associate degree in turf management, recreation management, or closely related field preferred or any combination of education and work experience to provide the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules, revises, and oversees daily and seasonal work, including daily setup, mowing of greens, tees, fairways, and rough areas.
  • Oversees watering of greens, tees, fairways, and driving range, and maintenance of the irrigation system.
  • Manages seeding, aerating, fertilizing, weed and pest control, manicuring of the golf course, tree maintenance, landscape areas, and maintaining areas associated with the parking lot.
  • Assists the golf course manager in preparing the annual budget, fiscal and quarterly reports, bid specifications, and monthly user committee reports.
  • Maintains machinery in proper working condition by directing maintenance and controlling the operation of mowers, tractors, and other equipment.
  • Maintains records for employee payroll documents, determines work procedures, and prepares work schedules.
  • Works with the user committee and golf course manager to establish future goals for the golf course and any reconstruction of new/existing golf course facilities.
  • Decides and advises the golf course manager when to open and close the golf course based on conditions affecting patron safety or playability.
  • Responsible for hiring and training all full and part-time employees in the golf maintenance division, and providing leadership and direction to complete daily assignments.
  • Administers educational opportunities for all members of the crew.
  • Responsible for maintaining data sheets for chemical applications.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
