About The Position

Bellevue Parks and Community Services is hiring to fill Golf Course Maintenance Staff 2 (Maintenance Aide 2) positions. Employee will receive direct supervision while on the job site. The amount of direct supervision required may diminish as proficiency in task performance and equipment operation increases. Employee may work independently on the basis of clear instructions. The position will perform a variety of manual labor tasks in assistance to fully-trained personnel to repair, maintain, operate, and install basic City or park infrastructure systems and/or support events or activities. Work consists of routine and repetitive tasks, processes, and/or operations and will be performed cooperatively with other employees and completed in a manner that assures individual, co-worker, and public safety in all weather and working conditions. Work is to be completed with appropriate efficiency and in a manner that commands the respect of or demonstrates appropriate courtesy to, co-workers, and the public. This is a Seasonal, non-exempt, union position, (Teamsters Local #763). A Seasonal Employee is regularly scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less. 'Customary' means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year. NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or a GED equivalent
  • Working knowledge of and familiarity with hand-held power tools and related maintenance equipment.
  • Basic mechanical skills and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to learn to operate safely the equipment and machinery necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to listen and understand direction/instruction, communicates with team members, and responds to customers tactfully and courteously.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Criminal History check required on all applicants.
  • Employees must provide and wear work clothing appropriate to their duties.
  • Some tasks require a long-sleeved shirt.
  • Employee must be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions and provide weather-related gear if/as needed such as rain gear and/or coat.
  • Employees with exposure will be required to provide and wear leather, steel-toed or equivalent protective footwear (ANSI approved).

Nice To Haves

  • preferred 2-4 months of relevant experience.
  • Exposure/experience adhering to safety rules and procedures is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assists full-time employees with golf course maintenance operations including mowing, edging, blowing, line trimming, weeding and trash and debris removal.
  • Removal of invasive species, pruning and manual vegetation control.
  • Work around golfers and the general public.
  • Work with city staff and pro shop staff on a daily basis.
  • General outdoor golf course maintenance.
