About The Position
This position is for the 2026 - 2027 Academic Year beginning in October 2026 and ending in June 2027. GO Tutor Corps in partnership with AmeriCorps. Location: New York, NY. School Partners: Great Oaks Kathleen Sherry Charter School. Schedule: Mon - Fri from 9 am - 5 pm including an hour lunch break (7 paid hours). Mandatory in-person training September 29th & 30th, 8:00 am - 2:00 pm both days, dates and times subject to change. First day working in school building: October 1st. As a GO Fellow, you will play a critical role in supporting students’ academic success by providing targeted, small-group instruction in Math. Fellows are embedded within school communities and contribute meaningfully to students’ daily learning experiences. We are seeking dedicated and knowledgeable fellows who are passionate about educational equity and eager to make a measurable difference in students' academic achievement. Ideal candidates are skilled at building relationships, adapting to different learning styles, and engaging students in-person through thoughtful, culturally responsive instruction. Fellows typically work with 3-4 students per session in a supportive environment, helping to drive gains in core academic areas while fostering student confidence and connection. This is a great opportunity for those looking to gain experience in education, mentorship, or youth development — especially recent graduates or those exploring a path in teaching. Fellows must be able to fully commit to one of the school schedules listed above. Schedules will be finalized during training and will remain consistent throughout the year.
Requirements
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree or current enrollment in an accredited college or university program
- Citizenship or legal Permanent Residency status in the United States (AmeriCorps requirement)
- Served no more than three previous AmeriCorps service terms (AmeriCorps requirement)
- At least 18 years of age
- Passion for service and a growth mindset
- Commitment to equity and diversity
- Belief that all students can succeed
- Confidence in your ability to lead students to significant academic growth in Math and/or ELA
- Experience working in team settings- relationship building and communication skills
- Maturity to work closely with professional peers
- Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
- Ability to respond well to and implement feedback- commitment to lifelong learning
- Collaborative problem-solving abilities
- Able to travel to a GO partner school up to 5 days/week

- Prior experience working or volunteering with children is a plus
Responsibilities
- Academic Tutoring - GO Fellows work with small groups of students to increase their achievement in Math and English Language Arts (ELA). You’ll be matched with consistent groups of students to support throughout the semester. You’ll receive lesson materials in advance and will be responsible for dedicating time to prepare yourself for each lesson.
- Mentoring & Enrichment - GO Fellows serve as mentors to their students, supporting their social and emotional development by building authentic and healthy relationships and setting goals for the future.
