About The Position

Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) is seeking a GNSS Analyst or Mathematician to support the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) in Washington, D.C. The USNO provides precise time, Earth orientation, and astronomical data to various entities, including the U.S. Department of Defense and the Global Positioning System (GPS). The Earth Orientation (EO) Department at USNO generates Earth Orientation Parameters using GPS and very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations. This role will focus on developing tools and algorithms for monitoring the validity and accuracy of GNSS data products from the International GNSS Service (IGS). The majority of the work will be performed on-site at USNO in Washington, D.C. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance upon hiring and will work closely with other CPI contractors and civilian members of the Earth Orientation department, reporting to the GPS Analysis Division Chief.

Requirements

  • Degree in geodesy, geophysics, physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field
  • At least six years of experience (this may include relevant work toward an advanced degree)
  • Python programming in a Linux environment
  • Analysis of large datasets
  • Knowledge of standard software development practices: version control, documentation, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Candidate must obtain a SECRET clearance upon hiring.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for DoD contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with orbit determination and parameter estimation
  • Experience with time-series data
  • Experience using standard GNSS data formats and GNSS data processing
  • Experience calculating, estimating, and/or using Earth orientation parameters

Responsibilities

  • Develop tools and algorithms for monitoring the validity and accuracy of GNSS data products produced by the International GNSS Service (IGS).
  • Support the GPS Analysis Division of the EO Department at USNO.
  • Work closely with other CPI contractors and civilian members of the Earth Orientation department.
  • Provide periodic updates to the GPS Analysis Division Chief.
