About The Position

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a GNC M&S Engineer to assist government customers with guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) subsystem modeling within their missile models. The role involves augmenting the GNC and seekers team by modeling and integrating subsystems like navigation systems, terminal sensors, and communication systems into a Simulink-based modeling architecture. The position requires leveraging knowledge of navigation techniques, guidance algorithms, Kalman filters, communications, terminal sensing technologies, and sensor/track fusion algorithms, while adhering to modeling and simulation (M&S) standards. The engineer will work directly with customers to ensure models meet M&S standards and design goals, and will validate model performance against data, including authoring a model performance report.

Requirements

  • At least three years of proven experience in GNC system analysis pertaining to algorithm development.
  • Experience with inertial and satellite navigation technology.
  • Experience with sensor fusion and integration techniques.
  • Experience with classical and modern controls.
  • Knowledge of guidance and navigation techniques of various aerospace vehicles.
  • Understanding of classical dynamics.
  • Demonstrated skill sets in modeling, simulation, and analysis software such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience in at least one or more general purpose programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.
  • Motivated self-starter able to work independently and in a collaborative team environment with minimal guidance.
  • Sufficient communication skills for conveying complex technical issues and providing comprehensive written, oral and/or digital products.
  • Sufficient technical writing and presentation development skills.
  • Good analytic skills and ability to apply them in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Active SECRET clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for most positions.

Nice To Haves

  • 8 years of experience with development of 6DOF aerospace models.
  • Demonstrated conscientious and collaborative work habits.
  • Master’s degree in either electrical or aerospace engineering with an emphasis on either control theory, modeling & simulation, or mathematical optimization of dynamic systems.
  • Specific experience with inertial instruments, inertial measurement units, and global satellite navigation systems and their use in navigation and guidance systems.
  • Specific experience in performing guidance and control error analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with software developmental practices including version control (e.g. via git), test driven software development, and object-oriented programming.
  • Active TOP SECRET clearance with Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (SCI) eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Model and integrate subsystems such as navigation systems, terminal sensors, and communication systems within a Simulink-based modeling architecture.
  • Apply knowledge of navigation techniques, guidance algorithms, Kalman filters, communications, terminal sensing technologies, and sensor/track fusion algorithms.
  • Adhere to customer modeling and simulation (M&S) standards.
  • Work directly with customers to ensure models satisfy M&S standards and design goals.
  • Validate model performance against performance data.
  • Author model performance reports.
