This position exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all aspects of the job. The GM/HBC Manager directs and controls the operation of the GM/HBC Department to achieve sales and profit objectives. As a primary contact for customers, the GM/HBC Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. This role works in the variety department of a grocery store handling mostly non-grocery items and is held accountable for the department’s results in providing superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing cost. The manager trains, supervises, schedules and assigns duties to GM/HBC Clerks, follows division guidelines for the implementation of the merchandising program, changes signs and prices as directed by merchandising, inventories floor stock daily, writes variety orders, and checks orders for completeness upon arrival. The role is responsible for maintaining appropriate stock of inventory, viewing display areas daily to determine stock needed, opening containers or boxes, removing merchandise, and stocking on store shelves. Shelves are periodically faced and organized, and stock area and variety display areas are kept clean and neat. Product is rotated and expired product is removed daily.
