The GM/HBC Manager directs and controls the operation of the GM/HBC Department to achieve sales and profit objectives. As a primary contact for customers, the GM/HBC Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service, working in the variety department of a grocery store handling mostly non-grocery items. The manager is accountable for the department’s results in providing superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing cost. This role involves training, supervising, scheduling, and assigning duties to GM/HBC Clerks, and following division guidelines for merchandising implementation, including changing signs and prices. Daily tasks include inventorying floor stock, writing variety orders, checking orders upon arrival, and maintaining appropriate stock levels. The manager views display areas daily to determine stock needs, removes merchandise, stocks shelves, and ensures display areas are kept clean and neat. Product rotation and removal of expired product are also key responsibilities.
